Day 1 - Fly overnight from London Heathrow to
Windhoek, via Johannesburg.
Day 2 - Arrive in Windhoek, shared charter
onwards to the Hartmann Valley - 3 nights at Serra
Cafema.
Hidden within the enormous Hartmann Valley, looking onto the
Kunene River and surrounded by the lunar-like infinity of the Namib
Desert, Serra Cafema is one of the most remote and surreal
destinations in all of Africa. Rapids, situated just below the
camp, provide the calming sound of rushing water, whilst by day you
can explore one of the driest deserts in the world where the last
true nomads in Africa, the Himba People, hail from.
There are a variety of activities with which to explore the
breathtaking landscape including: nature drives; boating on the
Kunene River, where crocodiles and waterbirds can be viewed;
walking in the remote mountain and river valleys; a visit to a
Himba settlement, should the nomadic people be in the area; and
guided quad bike excursions that tread lightly on the dunes, whilst
allowing guests to experience a true desert. The fairy circle
phenomenon is also best viewed in the Hartmann Valley.
Day 5 - Serra Cafema to Ongava - 3 nights
at Little Ongava.
Little Ongava is perched on the crest of a hill in the private
30,000-hectare Ongava Game Reserve which, in turn, adjoins the
southern boundary of the Etosh National Park. Apart from commanding
magnificent vistas of the African plains, Little Ongava is arguably
Namibia's most civilised and certainly most comfortable lodge, and
perfect from which to explore the country's premier wildlife
destination. The size of Switzerland, Etosha National Park is one
of Africa's largest game parks and activities include day and night
wildlifeviewing drives, visiting hides that overlook waterholes and
walks with experienced guides. A highlight at Ongava is that it is
one of the few private game reserves
in southern Africa where there is a chance of seeing both black
and white rhino - tracking white rhino on foot, with a guide, is a
highlight not to be missed!
Day 8 - Little Ongava to Kulala - 3 nights
at Little Kulala.
Little Kulala, a luxurious desert retreat, is situated in the
private 37,000-hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve - the gateway to
Namibia's 'Sand Sea' with its towering red dunes and clear starry
skies. Whilst here, the highlight is definitely the early morning
guided game drives to the spectacular towering dunes of Sossusvlei,
through a private gate into the reserve. Sossusvlei is situated
within the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world, which
itself is part of the Namib Naukluft National Park that stretches
400 km south of Walvis Bay and is sandwiched between the west coast
and the escarpment that runs parallel more than 100 km inland. Its
huge red dunes and flat valley floors make up the archetypal view
of the Namib that is world famous. Also, why not book a hot air
balloon safari, which offers a unique view over the desert before
landing for a champagne breakfast?
Day 11 - Little Kulala to London Heathrow,
via Windhoek and Johannesburg.
Combination Options.
Depending on the length of your intended stay, why not extend
your visit with a trip to the Skeleton Coast or with time in South
Africa, Botswana, Zambia or relax on the beach in Mozambique?
