Our View
Known locally as 'The Nelly', this feels like a colonial
outpost; in fact with such grand surroundings, you could almost be
staying in an embassy. But there's the surprise. You expect
stuffiness, but instead it's warm and welcoming with the attentive
staff bringing youth and energy. That, together with its fabulous
new spa and the hottest bar in Cape Town (Planet), must be why it's
such a favourite with celebs. Afternoon tea is a must-do, and to
explore the city we'd use the secondary entrance onto Kloof Street,
which puts you right amongst its lively shops and restaurants.
Hotel Description
Generations of royalty, statesmen and celebrities have passed
through this beautiful colonial grande dame since its opening in
1899. It still has all the grace and splendour of yesteryear but
with revamped sumptuous antique furnishings and an opulent decor;
updated guest rooms now sport mod cons, there's a trendy Champagne
bar and a full service spa. Afternoon tea and quiet contemplation
can still be enjoyed or perhaps you'd prefer a dip in one of two
heated pools, a game of tennis or a stroll into the vibrant heart
of Cape Town, followed by lunch in the informal Oasis
Restaurant.
