If you're planning your first safari, or doing the Garden Route,
Shamwari is perfect. Its excellent lodges and service give you
every comfort, plus you're able to get really close to the animals.
As part of the Born Free Foundation there's naturally a big
emphasis on conservation, but you should see all of the Big 5 here
(lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino). Of all the lodges,
we'd recommend Eagles Crag (spectacular), Lobengula (authentic
Africa) or Riverdene (for children). Actually, Shamwari is an ideal
choice for families, as it's in a malaria-free area. For a once in

Hotel Description
Shamwari is the longest established of the private reserves near
Port Elizabeth and the combination of luxury safari lodges and the
outstanding work that it does with the Born Free Foundation has
earned it numerous travel industry and conservation awards. Its
luxurious accommodation ranges from the Edwardian-style Long Lee
Manor, with its two swimming pools and spa, to the Bayethe which
has nine lavish tents set along the river. Sumptuous meals are
enjoyed in the main dining room or around the open fire at the Barn
and between game drives guests can experience a rejuvenating spa
treatment.

direct-dial phones, tea/coffeemaking facilities and private safes.

Transfer: 1 hour's drive from Port Elizabeth
