The butterfly in the heart of Africa, Zambia has a rich culture and friendly people; and is home to the legendary African walking safari, Victoria Falls, the wild Zambezi River, breathtaking lakes and wetlands,a profusion of birds, abundant wildlife and a raw, pulsating wilderness unmatched by its neighbours.

Flying time: 10 hours to Lusaka on a direct flight or 11 hours to Johannesburg with onward flights to Lusaka or Livingstone of just under 2 hours.

Time difference: GMT +2 hrs

Getting there: Daily flights via Johannesburg Airport with British Airways, South African Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Direct flights to Lusaka with British Airways.

Currency: Kwacha, but it is recommended that you take US Dollar which are widely accepted.

Visas: British passport holders do require visas, which are available on arrival.

Best time to visit: There are three seasons: the cool, dry winter season from May to September; the hot, dry season in October and November; and the rainy season, which is even hotter, from December to April. The best time to visit Victoria Falls is from March to May, when the falls are at their peak.

Vaccinations: Precautions for tetanus, typhoid, diphtheria, hepatitis A and malaria are recommended, with some regions under risk from rabies - please contact your doctor for up-to-date information.
