Day 1 - Fly overnight from London Heathrow to
Lusaka.
Day 2 - Arrive in Lusaka, shared charter onwards to
South Luangwa via Mfuwe - 3 nights at Kalamu Tented
Camp.
Situated on a bend in the wide hippo-filled Luangwa River is the
Kalamu Tented Camp, which looks out over a wide sandy bed
bracketing a ribbon of cool, blue water with crocodiles lining its
banks.
The camp is found in the Luamfwa concession in the southern
sector of the South Luangwa National Park. This typical tented
'bush camp' consists of five Meru-style en-suite tents, each one
with a
different outlook on the Luangwa River, whilst the central areas of
the camp have fantastic sweeping river views.
Activities at Kalamu focus on the Luangwa River with both game
drives and walks exploring its banks, fringing woodland and open
scrub. The famed 'walking safari' in fact first took place in this
park.
Day 5 - South Luangwa to Kafue - 3 nights at Shumba
Camp.
Shumba Camp is located in the centre of the Busanga Plains and is
perfectly situated to take advantage of the plains, game and
predator concentrations of this region, whilst being within close
proximity to permanent water and having easy access to a mix of
seasonal and permanent floodplains.
Viewing of species like puku, lechwe and hippo are possible for
much of the day from the comfort of your tent or the main deck,
while the camp's fig trees ensure both shade and constant bird
activity in the canopy above.
Shumba Camp comprises of six spacious luxury safari tents on
raised platforms with spectacular views of the surrounding plains,
whilst the dining and bar area are elevated for amazing views of
the plains and the sunrise! Dinner is often served at the cosy boma
and cooked on the fire in front of the guests.
Guests have the option of game drives in and around the plains
and night drives provide the added excitement of the nocturnal
wonders of the area.
Day 8 - Kafue to Livingstone - 2 nights at the Royal
Livingstone.
The local translation for Victoria Falls is 'The Smoke that
Thunders' and it is easy to see why it is so named when you see
this world-famous cascade of water.
Its fine spray may be seen like a cloud across the bushveld,
throwing rainbows hundreds of feet in the air.
On the forested banks of the great Zambezi River, upstream of the
mighty cataract where it thunders into the Batoka Gorge, is The
Royal Livingstone.
In its cool lounges and shaded verandas, you will encounter the
elegance and luxury of an earlier age. Whilst there, experience
microlight or helicopter flights over the falls; white-water
rafting; elephant back safaris; and river cruises.
Day 10 - Livingstone to London Heathrow, via
Johannesburg.
Combination Options.
Zambia is a great place to visit during the UK summer months, as
many camps close during our winter - it is easily combined with a
stay in either South Africa,
Botswana, Namibia or Mozambique.
