Our View
Tiger Leaping Gorge. Jade Dragon Snow
Mountain. Just the names conjure up visions of ancient pagodas and
a mysterious, remote world lost in time. Which pretty much
describes the Banyan Tree Resort in Lijiang.
It's super-luxurious, and styled to
resemble the romantic vision of old China - all upturned corners on
roofs, courtyards and beautiful mountain backdrops.
The sound of gently running water is
everywhere - it's oh-sopeaceful - but the highlight for us was
dining under the gorgeous three-tier pagoda by moonlight. Just
breathtaking!
Hotel Description
The Naxi architecture of Lijiang,
nicknamed 'Venice of the Orient' because of its maze of canals and
bridges, is echoed in this Himalayan retreat.
Inside its spacious suites and villas
though, you'll find contemporary comforts like hot tubs, plunge
pools and flatscreens amongst the Oriental red, gold and black
décor.
There's a heated pool and fitness
centre, while the exotic spa features treatments based on Chinese
Five Elements philosophy. Bai Yun, its refined Chinese restaurant,
is popular with local dignitaries (always a good sign!)
