Our View
You feel as if you are stepping into a bygone era of luxury and
elegance. The train is a pleasure to behold, like something out of
an Agatha Christie whodunit, with millions having been spent on
every last detail, from the upholstered leather seats to the
mahogany panelling and Lalique glass friezes. The waiters are
dressed to the nines in their delightful livery, and the Art
Nouveau style Bar Car gives you a chance to dress in your finest
and enjoy cocktails against an ever-changing, stunning backdrop.
One thing to note though that as this is the original train, there
are no showers on board and only shared W.C's!
Hotel Description
Renowned for its luxurious journeys between the great cities of
Europe, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express travels through some of
the continent's most beautiful scenery. It oozes old-world charm
and has the elegance of a bygone era. First introduced at the end
of the 18th Century, the carriages are now fitted with 1920's décor
with polished brass and wooden marquetry. White-gloved waiters
deliver afternoon tea and gleaming compartments are furnished
with a sofa and a small table, a wash basin and a luggage rack. The
bar car with resident pianist and meticulously-restored dining cars
set the atmosphere in which to enjoy the cuisine which is of the
highest calibre and is prepared by skilled French chefs; The
service is magnificent too. Elegant dressing for dinner is a must;
for inspiration think Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot.
