Our View
Gleneagles is how Scotland likes to see itself - heather-covered
hills, fishing and golf. But it used to also carry an image of
'stuffy opulence'. Not any more. Since hosting the G8 summit in
2005, it's really transformed into a family resort with something
for everyone (not least because it'll host the Ryder Cup in 2014).
In fact, children are positively encouraged, with a huge list of
activities and a new crèche and teenage club (both excellent);
they're even allowed in the restaurants (apart from Andrew
Fairlie's Michelin-starred haven)! And for adults? All you'd
expect, and a lot more!
Hotel Description
A golfer's dream, this venerable property set in 850 acres of
gorgeous countryside is home to three of Scotland's best
championship courses. But there's plenty more to enjoy beyond the
lush fairways, thanks to an extensive range of facilities that will
delight even those who don't know their tees from their irons. The
232 bedrooms and luxury suites reveal a master-class in blending
the traditional with the new.
The softest plaid blankets on the beds, smart lighting and
sleekly modern furniture keeps the look contemporary, while the
bathrooms with their boldly-coloured, free-standing tubs are
bang-up-to-date. And as this is a high-end resort catering for all,
rather than merely the style-conscious, you'll also find two
children's play rooms, a smart hair salon, and four excellent
restaurants, one boasting two Michelin stars. But it's the sporting
facilities that really set this resort apart, so what will it be
first? Falconry, equestrian or shooting lessons? Perhaps a set of
tennis, a dip in the pristine pools or a trip to the
multi-award-winning spa? At Gleneagles, the choice is yours.
