Our View
Ski resorts can be tricky and have a tendency to seem pretty
similar. Where Les Barmes de L'Ours gets it right is in its sense
of individuality. The wooden interiors are all there, making a cosy
atmosphere so welcome after a day out pounding the pistes, but this
is certainly not a cookie-cut, cute ski lodge - something which is
borne out by the fact that you can choose which style of room you
prefer.
Hotel Description
The expression 'winter wonderland' could have been invented for
this cosy retreat in the Val d'Isère. But don't be fooled by the
rustic appearance and ambience of homely comfort: this is a
fully-kitted-out base, both for skiers and those wishing for some
luxurious pampering. With a general, overall theme of a
wood-panelled lodge, the accommodation at Les Barmes de L'Ours
comes in a variety of packages - whether it's an American lodge
you're after, something Scandinavian, the feel of an Alpine chalet
or a more contemporary experience with space-age baths and clean,
modern lines.
Dining is also a matter of choice, with an award-winning, more
formal restaurant, a rotisserie and Le Coin Savoyard, with its
selection of local produce. After a hard day on the pistes, (or
even instead of skiing), there are extensive wellness facilities,
including a pool, Jacuzzi and treatment rooms where you can relax
away the strains of the slalom. After-dinner relaxation takes place
in the unexpectedly glamorous Sofa Bar, before an early night,
ready for the next day's invigoration.
